What is PRP?

Your blood contains superpowered platelets that are full of growth factors. Those growth factors play a critical part in healing. From hair growth to joint healing to skin cell growth and beyond, your platelets are capable of miracles.

However, to get the optimal benefit from your platelets, you need a concentration of them in the area where you need growth or healing. That's where platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy comes in.

What is PRP therapy?

PRP therapy is a way to isolate your blood platelets (complete with growth factors) and use them in a specific way. Star Laser offers several different PRP therapy treatments, including:

For PRP therapy, Dr. Palakurthi takes a small sample of blood from your arm. Next, she uses the RegenKit® or ProGen® kit from RegenLab® USA LLC to collect and process your PRP. Finally, a specialized centrifuge machine spins your blood at ultra-high speed to separate the blood from the platelets.

Dr. Palakurthi then injects the platelets where they’re needed, whether via a super thin syringe or through microneedling.

How long do the benefits of PRP therapy last?

PRP therapy is highly individual. It depends on what type of treatment you’re having, what your goals are, and other factors specific to you. Many PRP therapy patients enjoy results for weeks, months, or possibly longer.

Many patients don’t need repeat therapy after their initial PRP treatments. For example, athletes who suffer knee damage can often achieve effective, fast healing, so they don’t need repeat treatments.

In other cases, for example, PRP hair regrowth therapy, you may opt for treatments 2-4 times a year once you’ve achieved your optimal results. This can help you maintain your new growth long-term. The frequency of Vampire Facials is usually about the same: 2-4 times a year to maintain your results.

If you’re not sure whether PRP therapy is right for you, tell Dr. Palakurthi about your concerns and your hopes for the procedure. She can give you a good idea of what to expect, and can guide you in future treatments as well.
